'The Snow Farmer' - The Book - August 2016
I have just finished reading The Snow Farmer by Sally Rae. This is the story of John Lee, his beloved Cardrona Valley and the development of the Cardrona Skifield, The Snow Farm, The Southern Hemisphere Prooving Ground and The Snow Park.
This is a book full of kiwi yarns and oozes entrepreneur spirit infused with John Lee's unique 'cavalier attitude'. A delightful read and great record of a man with a tremendous vision and the people who supported him. It is due to John's vision that the Cardrona Valley is what it is today.
A few years back, I had the very great privilege to hear many of these stories first hand from the man himself over scones and cups of tea at the Cardrona Hotel. While reading 'The Snow Farmer', I was amazed at the clarity at which I could hear John's voice telling the familiar stories I had heard frequently at the Hotel. It was like hearing them all over again. Hats off to author Sally Rae for recording his memoirs and retaining John's voice throughout.
For me this book is a reminder of the time I have spent with John and also a reminder to catch up with him again one day soon.
